V.O. (Male, storyteller, Midwestern, believable):
Welcome to Dubuque, Iowa. A vibrant community steeped in historical charm. A place where cultures crossroad and entertainment is the official language.

It all began here. Settled in 1833, Dubuque owes its roots to the Mighty Mississippi, a river thats sights and sounds have reached legendary proportions. Beyond the stories it could tell, America’s great river provides commerce, recreation and natural beauty to a bustling riverfront.

Thankfully, you’ll be able to take it all in on top of Dubuque’s limestone bluffs, a natural wonder with outstanding views no matter where you’re standing.

While you’re up there, witness history preserved in Dubuque’s downtown, where flourishes of a bygone era are integrated into a progressive present.

There’s much more to Dubuque than it’s history, however. It’s a vacation reinvented.

(New music for short, fast-paced montage of exciting activity shots.)

Entertainment for young and old is a mainstay here. That means festivals and special events for every mood and every season. Music, food, fun – we consider it our specialty.

Explore Main Street – a place where Victorian meets Bohemian and one-of-a-kind treasures are waiting to be discovered. When you’re through, stop by one of the many eateries that have made Dubuque a gastronomer’s paradise.

For gaming and entertainment fun, be a part of the Vegas-style action at the Mystique or try your hand at the Diamond Jo Casino. While you’re there, a national touring act or a quick game of tenpin is only a heartbeat away.

At the Port of Dubuque, wander the outdoor art exhibit beside our scenic river walk or journey on a paddle wheeler along the Mighty Mississippi. Or maybe tie to the visiting boat docks and enjoy all Dubuque has to offer.

Then visit the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, the definitive place for America’s great river. As a Smithsonian affiliate, the facility features interactive films and games, towering aquariums and some very friendly otters. And just like the river, it doesn’t stagnate thanks to new exhibits that keep every visit fresh.

When it’s time to unwind, stay and play at the hotel and indoor waterpark or treat yourself to a boutique bed and breakfast. And then there’s the Hotel Julien, where since 1839 it has welcomed the likes of Al Capone and Mark Twain. Be sure to get a little R&R, though – you’re going to need it.

When the sun dips below the Mississippi, the fun is only beginning.

Fine dining is no stranger to Dubuque. From casual to elegant, indulge yourself with the best our local growers and farmers have to offer. Afterwards, challenge your palate at one of the local wineries or learn about our hoppy history at the Star Brewery.

Four beautiful theaters will keep you on the edge of your seat with plays, musicals and national tours. And symphony fans will be humming long after seeing their favorite pops concert.

After the ties loosen up, night spots abound here. From live music to great places to socialize, Dubuque knows how to have fun after dark.

From season to season, Dubuque is a showcase of the best of Mother Nature.

In spring and summer, tee-up one of our lush golf courses or journey through the Horseshoe Bluff at Mines of Spain Recreation Area, where wild flowers outnumber the people. Then grill out at Eagle Point Park, a place that has views truthful to its name. With over 30 parks and trail systems that weave in and out of the city for countless miles of hiking and biking, everyone will discover their favorite spot.

A short drive through the countryside takes you to Dyersville, Iowa, home to the colorful National Farm Toy Museum. Then take a quick jump over the Mississippi to the quaint shopping and dining experience of Galena, Illinois. Here, see the best 1800’s architecture has to offer and visit the home of Ulysses S. Grant.

Dubuque is a flurry of activity when the snow flies. Skiing and snowboarding through the powder of Dubuque’s hilly terrain defines the meaning of winter getaway. If you’re not feeling as adventurous, don’t worry — sledding is also on the menu here.
